Week 2 - Journal

Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What were you inspired by?

The Assignment for this week was to design in fusion 360.
1) to design and assemble catapult
2) Personal mobile stand
i cared about this idea for designing as it is core module in fabrication hence by designing customized things we get the knowledge and confidence to do more.
I was inspired by some online fashionable mobile stands and thought to try it out with what i loved to have a horse (which is on his 2 legs + and the mobile rests on the other 2) mobile stand

Tool Chain

Which software/machines/materials did you use this week? Why?

"Fusion 360" was explored this week.
Specially using shortcut constraints and also learning new about "Join- assembly" to assemble the components as to see they fix perfectly together or not .

The most interesting part is to use the CNC lase cut machine for the first time on my own - i used for it"laserwork" software for communicate with the machine. Also 3mm sheet of wood 30cm by 15 cm. as the laser cut and engrave on it till my assignment of mobile stand is successfully laser cut and assembled.

Design Process

Explain the design process of your assignment. How did you use the tool/software to design and/or simulate your assignment?

The design process my assignment were 2.
1) for designing catapult i used the reference guidelines and the measurement which were given to sketch my own part.
2) as for my mobile stand i practiced by first by tracing method a horse mobile stand, it was very big so i designed it again without tracing to get confidence and to make my horse smaller.

Fabrication/Implementation Process

Explain the fabrication/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?

Fabrication process of my assignment mobile stand.

Firstly i used fusion 360 to design my model
Secondly i used the "projection" tool on a new sketch to avoid the construction lines. and exported it as .DXF file.
Thirdly I opened my .dxf file in laser work software so set the parameters and settings by importing the file from my laptop.
Fourthly i had set 2 main settings cut and scan(engraving)- cut -speed 22 and power 65 and for scan- speed 300 and power 20 .
5-i had used 3mm wood sheet 30 cm by 15 cm. so on the machine first we have to check the home (point of the laser on the end of wood sheet) and then check the work frame by using that option in the machine.
6-i pressed on file option then choose my file and pressed enter and then pressed run.
7- calculated the total work time on the machine - 6minutes and 36 seconds.
Video of the laser cut process.

Community of Learning

Did you ask for feedback? What are the ideas that others have contributed or suggested? What was someone else’s idea that you built upon? How did you help your peers? How did your peers help you?

Yes i have asked for feed back by uploading videos on flip grid.
During the session many have contributed and commented on my ideas.
I helped my peers many ways mainly through whatsapp group of our team , By capturing videos and images and giving instructions to help them in every way possible.
Same my peers helped me alot specially my instructor who gave us tips and shortcuts for making fully constrained sketch which i lacked in it.

Overcoming Challenges

When you got stuck, what/who did you turn to? At what point did you have to pause to research or learn more before moving on? What are some mistakes, pitfalls, or challenges that others can avoid if they were doing this project?

This week main challenge was that i didn't know how to make my sketch fully constrained.
i first searched in google and still understand the problem so i returned to my peers and instructor who helped me a lot by sharing his window and doing it practical in front of me.
My mistake was i was not connecting my sketch to the Origin of the sketch, i suggest my reader to mind this every time when he or she designs.

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

I learned how to design the joining part (joining two parts by screw and nut type) as this will help a lot in my final project as it gives more accurate join and assemble it easily.

WOW!

What is the coolest thing that you've learned this week? What is something that you will never forget from this week?

The amazing thing which i will not forget is the assembly of components . as it feels like i am doing it with my hands as they join on the software fusion 360.

Weekly Digest [OPTIONAL]

Tell us about any other cool things that you've made this week: Pre-activity, examples, exercises, or any mini-projects.

This week's pre- activity was to assemble a game kit which was given in our first visit to the lab.
It was very interesting to assemble it on my own specially by referring to the construction guidelines.
