Final Project Showcasing

3D FAB PEN

video of the project.

The 3D Fab Pen is a pocket version of a 3D printer shaped as a pen and adapted with the faculty to build 3-dimensional objects. The purpose is not only to build / repair an existing object but to originate any object that the user wants, that's what makes it unique.

The project operates by the extrusion of heated plastic that cools speedily and transforms into a solid and stable structure, allowing for the free-hand creation of three-dimensional objects.

It uses plastic thread made of either acrylonitrile butadiene styrene ("ABS") or poly lactic acid ("PLA"). The plastic thread is then melted and chilled through a patented process while moving throughout the pen, which can finally be used to make 3D objects by hand. This is like how a hot glue gun Works.

To do this, as the user power on the project, the heater will start to heat to the range of 210 degrees Celsius. The temperature will always be displayed on the LCD. Two push buttons are seen on the holder, each of them indicating the direction of the filament flow. The push buttons will work once the temperature attains 200 degrees Celsius. Once the "extrude" button is pressed, the filament begins to fuse out of the pen, as soon as the user releases the tension from the push button the movement of the filament stops. While extruding, the user is able to move the pen free hand to create any three-dimensional objects.

As for changing the color of the filament or for any purpose user need to "unload" filament. It can be easily accomplished by pressing the second push button on the holder.
