Raise Your Voice for MHAGC
Whether this is your first time reaching out to your elected officials or you're a seasoned pro, using our step-by-step guide below will make advocating for 988 funding from our SC legislature easy and fast! If you have questions about the steps, trouble finding your representatives, or need any help, email outreach@mhahc.org, and we'll help you out!
Steps for Sending a 988 Advocacy Email:
Locate your SC state representative(s) by plugging in your address at the following link: South Carolina Legislature Online - Find Your Legislators (scstatehouse.gov)
Click the name of the representative you’d like to contact, and their individual page should open with their contact details.
Just below the representative's photo and phone number, click “Send message to [name of representative]” and a contact form similar to the sample form included here will appear.
Complete the contact form with your name and contact information.
In the “Subject” field, use a variation of one of the following:
“Keep 988 In-State for South Carolina”
“SC's 988 Staffing Should be Fully Funded”
“Lives Depend on 988. Please Keep It In-State!”
Legislators share administrative personnel, so varied subject lines could increase attention to your email. For the “Message” field, copy and paste the text linked below, then personalize it with details about why in-state response for South Carolinians is important to you.
Attach the Legislative One-Pager from the section below.
