Educators facilitate learning with technology to support student achievement of the ISTE Standards for Students. Educators:
6a: Foster a culture where students take ownership of their learning goals and outcomes in both independent and group settings.
6b: Manage the use of technology and student learning strategies in digital platforms, virtual environments, hands-on makerspaces or in the field.
6c: Create learning opportunities that challenge students to use a design process and computational thinking to innovate and solve problems.
6d: Model and nurture creativity and creative expression to communicate ideas, knowledge or connections.
“Oh, no," said a bespectacled man at NASA Mission Control. "We have an astronaut who has lost video/voice communications. We need a way to send messages to her."
Meanwhile...back at school...
“I'm so excited! Our Mars Micro:bit is up there in space with a live astronaut. Maybe we can start to send messages as a way to introduce students to computational thinking and get a message across. What shall we send?”
To get a feel for what computational thinking is, explore the micro:bit activity resources, make some code using MakeCode.com for Micro:bit, then craft your message to the "Stuck on Mars" astronaut by controlling the LEDs.
