Welcome to the MGfC Pediatric Residency Applicant Site!

Please return to the site throughout the season as we post updates!

Welcome Applicants!

We are honored that you are considering pediatrics residency training at MassGeneral for Children. Caring for children and their families is incredibly rewarding and we are eager to share this joy with you as a trainee at MGfC. We hope that you find our website helpful in learning more about our program.

At MGfC, we are incredibly fortunate to practice and train in an innovative children’s hospital within a world-renowned general hospital where medical education has long been at the core of our identity.  As a result, our residents deliver the latest, evidence-based care with the support of dedicated faculty to a diverse patient population that come to MGH from every corner of the globe.

On our inpatient teams, residents care for a broad range of children, from patients with common illnesses to ones with complex, rare conditions. In addition, they participate in the care of patients in need of specialized care including pediatric trauma patients, children undergoing complex otolaryngology surgeries, and patients receiving stem cell or solid organ transplants.

In the outpatient clinical setting, residents provide longitudinal care for their own panel of patients in an array of clinic sites serving richly diverse communities throughout eastern Massachusetts.  At these primary care sites, residents not only provide care for children as their primary care provider, but also gain insight into population health and participate in interventions that positively impact the health of the communities in which their patients live.

Graduated autonomy is the cornerstone of our curriculum.  Our PGY-2 residents experience early team leadership opportunities in the overnight care of patients on the pediatric ward at MGH, in the Pediatric Emergency Department, in the high-risk delivery service, and at our affiliated community hospital.  Our PGY-3 residents helm the teams on our busy inpatient service at MGH, caring for complex patients on the general medicine and subspecialty services.  Each clinical setting provides a supportive learning environment that encourages independent practice balanced by the abiding belief that no one should worry alone.

Beyond clinical care, our residents advance pediatric health through clinical research, global health experiences, legislative advocacy, and quality improvement, leveraging the resources at MGH, Harvard Medical School, and national organizations.  Residents complete exciting scholarly work that seeks to advance pediatric care and to improve equity in healthcare.

Equally important to the academic rigor of our training is the culture of our program. We are dedicated to the individualized needs of our residents, both academic and personal. We want to get to know you individually and have created opportunities for you to personalize your experience during residency. Our program fosters a close-knit pediatric community where resident support and mentorship are the foundations of a safe and productive learning environment

We hope that through our virtual interview day and content shared on this website, you are able to gain insight into the rigorous yet inviting and supportive nature of our program that is committed to the mission “To develop a diverse group of independent, innovative pediatric leaders through education and personalized mentorship in a supportive academic learning environment committed to excellence in family-centered clinical care, research, and advocacy.”

Thank you for choosing a career dedicated to the care of children and their families. We know you will find lots of fulfillment in pediatric medicine, whether you are applying to our peds, med-peds, child neuro, child psych or preliminary tracks. Welcome to pediatrics!

Best wishes for your future career,
