Lupus, though a collage vascular disorder, is an autoimmune disorder when it affects the nervous system due to autoantibody stimulation and production resulting in microangiopathy, and premature atherosclerosis.
Imaging findings include atrophy, infarcts, petechial hemorrhages, and demyelination manifested by multifocal white matter T2 hyperintensities. Lesions may also be seen in the cerebellum. brain stem, or spinal cord. Patients may develop superficial or deep grey matter infarcts.
