Crew Descriptions  

Mercy McAuley High School  

Read carefully for all crew descriptions before choosing which crew you want to apply for. After reading all descriptions please let Ms. Geckle know if you have any questions! 

Stage Manager:   

Description: The Stage Managers work with the director and technical director in rehearsals… they are responsible for recording all blocking, line notes, cue notes for tech crews, and all other rehearsal notes. As we approach tech and the show, stage managers are responsible for calling all cues and transitions. Stage Managers are the link for crews, actors and director. 

Rehearsal Commitment: 

• ALL Rehearsals (3 days/week on average)

Assistant Stage Manager: 

Description: Assistant Stage Managers are responsible for assisting stage managers in tracking paper work, crew work, and anything connected to cast members. Ideally, there are TWO Assistant Stage Managers per productionl; one assigned to crew and one assigned to cast. 

Rehearsal Commitment: 

• ALL Rehearsal (3 days/week on average)

Dramaturg:  

Description: The Student Dramaturg will work alongside the director and all other crews. They are the expert on the world of the play. They will provide research on the world of the play, help make the world of the play relevant and real for actors, crews and audiences. Preference is that this student is also involved in other aspects of the production.

• Read Thru  

• Weekly check Ins with cast and crew

Props Crew: 

Description: Props Crew will assist with all prop building, acquiring, and organizing leading up to performances and during performances. Responsible for addressing any prop problems that might come up during performances. (also responsible for maintaining a clean prop room) Might assist run crew. 

Rehearsal Commitment: 

• Pre Tech- AT LEAST once a week  

• ALL Off Book Rehearsals

• ALL Tech Rehearsals

Props Crew Lead: Props Crew Lead will create a prop plot. They will then be responsible for pulling and building all props needed. Before we enter tech they will be responsible for creating and organizing props table… then during the run of the show they will check all props at the beginning and end of each show. (Also responsibility for maintaining a clean and organized prop room). 

Rehearsal Commitment: 

• Pre Tech- AT LEAST once a week  

• ALL Off Book Rehearsals

• ALL Tech Rehearsals

Set Build Crew: 

Description: Set Build Crew is responsible for a timely and safe build and painting of the set. They are expected to keep things moving so that the set is complete before we enter into tech. 

Rehearsal Commitment: 

• Pre Tech- AT LEAST once a week

Can also be in cast? No 

Can also be on other crews? Yes (Run Crew) 

Set Build Lead: Set Build Crew Lead will be responsible for heading up the build of the set and other major pieces of the show. This is a major leadership role within the production. Design is a possible aspect of this position.  

Rehearsal Commitment:  

• AT LEAST 2-3 days per week

: 

Run Crew: 

Description: Run Crew is responsible for the movement of the set during performances. Prior to performances and tech they will need to be present for some rehearsals in order to understand how the show should move. Reports to Run Crew Head. 

Rehearsal Schedule: 

• ALL Pre Tech & Tech Week Rehearsals   

• OFF BOOK Rehearsals

Special Note: There is not always a Run Crew! Pay attention to crew applications to know when this is an opportunity.  

Run Crew Lead: Run Crew Head is responsible for the run crew and movement of the set during performances. Prior to performances and tech they will need to be present for some rehearsals in order to understand how the show should move. Run Crew Head will be responsible for choreographing set moves along with director and tech director(s). Run Crew Head will assign positions for run crew.

• OFF BOOK Rehearsals

Costume Crew: 

Description: Costume Crew is responsible for costume design, build and pulling from our costume stock. They will take care of costume measurements and fittings. When tech and performances begin, Costume Crew will be responsible for quick changes and maintaining costumes.  

Rehearsal Schedule: 

• AT LEAST once a week  

• ALL Off Book, Pre Tech & Tech Week Rehearsals

Costume Crew Lead: Costume Crew Heads are responsible for creating a costume plot, making sure all designing and building happens in a timely manner, and making sure all costumes are fit and well maintained. When tech and performances begin, Costume Crew will be responsible for all quick changes. (also responsible for maintaining a clean costume storage space, dressing room and sewing room)

• MOST Rehearsals (2-3 days/week)  

• ALL Off Book, Pre Tech & Tech Week Rehearsals

Hair & Makeup Crew: 

Description: Hair & Wig Crew is responsible for the design and execution of the hair and makeup of all members of the cast. 

Rehearsal Schedule: 

• AT LEAST 1 day/week  

• ALL Off Book, Pre Tech & Tech Week Rehearsals 

• Hair/Makeup Trial Day(s)

Can also be on other crews? No 

Hair Crew Lead: Hair Crew Head is responsible for the design and execution of the hair of all members of the cast. The crew head is also responsible for assigning hair crew members to cast members and teaching those who will not have their hair done by a crew member what they need to do. Hair & Wig Crew Head also needs to be aware of and responsible for planning of any quick changes. Works closely with the Makeup Crew Lead.  

Rehearsal Schedule:

• ALL Off Book, Pre Tech & Tech Week Rehearsals   

• Hair/Makeup Trial Day(s)

Makeup Crew Lead: Makeup Crew Head is responsible for the design and execution of the makeup of all members of the cast. The Makeup Crew Head is also responsible for assigning makeup crew members to cast members and teaching those who will not have their makeup done by a crew member what they do need to do. Makeup Crew Head also needs to be aware of and responsible for planning of any quick changes. Works closely with the Hair Crew Lead.

Lights Crew: 

Description: Lights Crew is responsible for execution of lighting design for the show. This includes operating light board and spotlights, aiming lights and assisting in design. 

Rehearsal Schedule: 

• AT LEAST 1 day/week  

• ALL Off Book, Pre Tech &Tech Week Rehearsals   

Can also be in cast? No

Lights Crew Lead: Lights Crew Head is responsible for the design and execution of the lights for the show. This includes board programming and operation, aiming lights, etc. 

Rehearsal Schedule:  

• AT LEAST 1 day/week

Sound Crew:    

Description: Sound Crew is responsible for all things related to microphones and sound effects. Sound Crew will do prep work throughout the rehearsal process and become really busy at show time.

Sound Crew Lead: Sound Crew Heads have responsibilities of sound crew. They  will also create mic plots and sound plot, be responsible for assigning responsibilities to their crew, making sure sound effects are made and ready.

Lobby/Publicity Crew: 

Description: Lobby/Publicity Crew has two major responsibilities… publicity and marketing for the show & the lobby environment over show weekend. The work of lobby/publicity is incredibly time sensitive and includes things such as posters, tshirts, other marketing tools, videos, etc. The lobby design and decoration is also the responsibility of the lobby/publicity crew. This crew will also team with the Advocacy Chairs of Drama Club to ensure Mercy McAuley Theatre Spotlights is a success. Lobby/Publicity also works closely with the Student Artistic Director.

• Tech Week Rehearsals

Lobby/Publicity Crew Lead: Lobby/Publicity Crew Head holds all of the responsibilities listed above. In addition, they are responsible for planning of a timeline and planning of all other executed ideas. This crew head will work closely with the Student Artistic Director and Director.

Spotlight and Connections 

Description: The Spotlight & Connections Crew connects Mercy McAuley Theatre with the broader community by collaborating with alumnae, local nonprofits, and partners. They enhance the impact of productions through outreach initiatives, service projects, and storytelling, ensuring the theatre inspires and connects with audiences meaningfully.

Rehearsal Commitment:  

• Most Rehearsals 

• Tech Week

Projections 

Description: Bring the story to life on screen! Projection Crew designs and runs all digital visuals — from moving backgrounds and animations to video effects that enhance each scene. They collaborate closely with the director and tech teams to make every moment shine.
