In this asynchronous lesson, you will function as the student. Lessons are vertically aligned based on the standards and learning targets below.

6th grade Earth science

Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the uses and conservation of various natural resources and how they impact Earth
By the end of the lesson, S.W.B.A.T.:
Examine water samples from the aquaponics system to identify levels of ammonia, pH, and temperature.
Explain the importance of water quality in order for a successful aquaponics system.
Identify steps needed in order to keep ponds, rivers, and oceans safe for wildlife and plants.

7th grade life science

Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to construct scientific explanations to describe how cell structures interact to maintain the basic needs of organisms
By the end of the lesson, S.W.B.A.T.:
Identify the basic needs of plants and fish

Explain the cellular similarities between plants and fish and how they maintain homeostasis with reference to the aquaponics system.

8th grade physical science

Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the structure and properties of matter
By the end of the lesson, S.W.B.A.T.:
Provide evidence from an aquaponics system that matter (atoms) is not created nor destroyed but cycled around.
Discuss how systems thrive off the sum of its parts with reference to an aquaponics system
