Course Description
This course covers the fundamentals of logic, including fallacies, inductive and deductive reasoning, conditional statements, and the evaluation of arguments; the basic ideas of finance, including simple and compound interest, amortized loans, and retirement accounts; ideas of probability and applications of probability to realistic situations; and problem solving and data analysis techniques. The course provides students with a strong foundation in quantitative reasoning and mathematical concepts applicable to everyday life situations and long-term decision-making strategies. (Formerly MATH 95)

- Math Fundamentals for Statistics (Math 102) Work/Textbook – provided in print or online.
- Math Fundamentals for Statistics (Math 102) Homework Packet – provided in print or online.
- Computer/tablet with internet access. Since this course is fully online, you will be required to have internet access. You will be submitting assignments multiple times a week.
- Calculator. A Casio fx-300 ES Plus scientific calculator is required, and is the only type of calculator allowed on tests. Graphing calculators are not recommended because you could use them for homework but not on the exams. These are less than $20 at the bookstore, but is between $10 and 16 at Target/WalMart/Amazon/etc. This is the calculator I will use in all videos and textbook examples.
- Notecards, Binder, Paper, Pencil/Eraser. 3 × 5 notecards can help with terminology; a binder is where to put the homework – it is hole-punched and ready to put in the binder.

You can expect to spend a minimum of 30 hours per week in this class. I know this is a lot, but this summer course is only 8 weeks long compared to a normal semester of 17 weeks. You will be allowed to work ahead if you need to. Also, I plan to open up the course in Canvas a week early so you can take a peek around.
