Mental Health and Masking in Autistic Young People

A co-produced research project exploring predictors of mental health problems in autistic young people and ways to measure masking

Please note - this website talks about mental health issues including anxiety and depression. If you would like any support or more information about mental health issues, please see the Support page of this website.

Research Project Summary

This project is funded by an Early Career Fellowship awarded to Dr Laura Hull.

Which factors contribute to the development of mental health problems in autistic people? How can we intervene in childhood and early adolescence to reduce the development of future mental health problems? What does masking look like in autistic children and young people?

These are some of the questions we hope to answer during the course of this research project. The project involves two phases:

1) using pre-collected data to identify predictors of mental health problems for autistic children and young people across adolescence and early adulthood.

2) co-developing methods of measuring masking in autistic children and young people.

Please see below for more information about the research project and how to get involved.
