〈或躍在淵〉畢展前言:
古語有云:「事非經過不知難。」這句話確可玩味。倘若事情真的困難,也就委實無法經過;既然如今能經得過,就證明不見得真的困難。讀韓愈《勸學詩》:「讀書患不多,思義患不明。患足已不學,既學患不行。」實字字珠玉,不言自明。
《周易》中的首卦(乾為天卦)九四原文:「或躍在淵,無咎」,意指龍下一刻或飛升上天、或暫留深淵的二元狀態,其意蘊堪比「薛定格貓」思想實驗,盡道學生面對未來的雙重抵梧:迷茫與期盼。是次畢展為我班於理工藝校的告別展覽,選以「或躍在淵」為展題實扣合多重的意韻與情思,深埋一眾學子對藝術志業的憧憬與追求。
展題首層寓意畢業生初次問世藝壇的狀態:或許一躍而出嶄露頭角,又或暫待原地裝備自己、靜候契機,乃映照藝生對未來的點點嚮往與現實的迷惘;一元復始,萬象更新,乾卦為《周易》六十四卦的首卦,興寄畢業並非藝術的終結,更是我等創作路上全新的一章;而依《周易》所述,乾卦九四下支的爻辭即「飛龍在天」(乾卦九五),更隱喻了應屆生對未來的期盼與應許。
國學大師錢穆先生曾言道:「從平地上迤邐前進固有難,到崇高絕頂在望處更是難。」縱然這年洶湧湍急、創作舉步維艱,今亦終究「能事畢矣」。論語謂:「盡美矣,未盡善也」。學生自知詮才末學,每多敝帚自珍。還望觀眾鑑賞展覽的同時,從中能讀出學生對藝術創作的熱忱與逆流而上的堅毅,是繼〈移帆轉向〉班展後再一風雨同舟的成果發表。水準或若未臻成熟,仍不失為藝文初心者的一番傾情。望諸君知我諒我,不吝雅正是盼。
臨別將至,再次假錢穆先生於新亞書院第一屆藝術專科畢業授憑致辭:「人常說,因他有好的藝術作品,他才出名成為一藝術家了。因他有好的文學作品,他才出名成為一文學家了。但就實際言,正因他先有了文學藝術的修養,才能有好的文學藝術作品之完成。換言之,先有該有品格,才能有此成就與表現。」與觀者、澳門理工大學互勉。
"Up in the Air, Remains to be Seen." Graduation Exhibition Forward:
There is an ancient saying that truly provokes thought: "One does not know the difficulty until one has experienced it." If something is genuinely challenging, it may seem impossible to overcome; however, once we manage to conquer it, we realize that it may not have been as insurmountable as it appeared. In Han Yu's poem "On Encouraging Learning," the words resonate deeply: "In fear of inadequate reading and the lack of clarity in reasoning, we worry. We fear both the illusion of having learned enough and the temptation to cease studying. Yet, even when knowledge is gained, we fear its insufficiency for practical application." Every word within it is precious and self-evident.
This graduation exhibition serves as a farewell showcase for our class in the Bachelor of Art in Visual Arts program at Macau Polytechnic University. The theme, "Up in the air, remains to be seen," carries profound layers of meaning and emotions that encapsulate the aspirations and pursuits of art students. In the original text of the first hexagram, Qian, also known as the Heaven hexagram, in the "Book of Changes (I Ching)," it states: "Leap from the abyss, no blame." This implies a dual state where a dragon momentarily soars to the heavens or lingers in the depths of the abyss, akin to the thought experiment of "Schrödinger's Cat." It reflects the dual struggles faced by students: the confusion and anticipation towards the future.
The theme represents the transitional phase of graduating students as they enter the art world, where they have the choice to either boldly forge ahead and establish themselves or patiently prepare themselves while awaiting opportunities. It reflects the aspirations for the future and the complexities of reality experienced by art students. The Qian hexagram, the first hexagram in the "Book of Changes," signifies that graduation does not mark the end of artistic pursuits but rather the beginning of a new chapter in their creative journey. Furthermore, as described in the "Book of Changes," the line text of the lower trigram of the Qian hexagram states, "The flying dragon in the sky" (Qian hexagram, line five), which further symbolizes the aspirations and promises of graduating students for the future.
The renowned sinologist Qian Mu once said, "It is difficult to advance from level ground, and it is even more difficult to reach the summit when it is in sight." Despite the tumultuous and challenging year of creation, we have ultimately "accomplished the task." As the Analects states, "To be able to be comprehensive but not perfect is beautiful." While the audience appreciates the exhibition, we hope you can discern the students' passion for artistic creation and determination to forge ahead against the current. This exhibition is the result of our collective efforts, following the previous "GYBE" class exhibition. Though our skills may not have reached maturity, it remains a heartfelt endeavour of aspiring artists. We hope for your understanding and constructive criticism.
As we bid farewell, I once again borrow the words of Qian Mu, who delivered a speech at the graduation ceremony of the first batch of art majors at New Asia College: "People often say that someone becomes an artist because they have outstanding artworks, or a writer because they have great literary works. However, in reality, it is because they have cultivated their literary and artistic qualities that they are able to produce excellent literary and artistic works. In other words, one must possess the character before achieving such accomplishments and expressions." Let us encourage and inspire each other, together with the audience and Macau Polytechnic University.

在東方哲學中,「氣」為天地萬物的始基。自古以來不論醫學、文學、音樂或視覺藝術等均著重對「氣」的尊崇。古人藉由「氣」解釋宇宙萬物的法則,探索人與自然的關係。並駕齊驅是西方另一套的哲學觀念,「自然哲學」為現代「自然科學」的基石,主要思考人與自然的哲學問題。有別東方的一套邏輯體系,以科學角度客觀剖析萬物法則。
磁場本身是一種帶方向和強度的向量場(可理解為一股流動狀態的氣場),亦即東方哲學裏一種自然界的「氣」。故系列結合人與自然,以物理四大基本作用力之一「電磁力」作畫筆,藉肉眼無法觀察的磁場軌跡創作視覺元素,記錄並保存頃刻「向量場」流動的「氣韻」, 從東方審美的極致追求「氣韻生動」中,展現人類對自然的哲學探究。
而上述為「二分」作品的表層意涵。系列裏層亦有作者述情的傾注,以改編的替代密碼撰寫,並於展廳留下加密金鑰的提示,有待觀者欣賞途中參與破譯,重構視象意涵。
這是一個向大眾呈現我對藝術獨特觀點的平台,涵蓋了我的人生、思想、心靈活動、品味吟咏訴諸藝作的成果,每每都是同一個心智情思苦心孤詣的呈現。

In Eastern philosophy, 'qi' is the foundation of all things in the universe. Throughout history, fields such as medicine, literature, music, and visual arts have all emphasized the importance of 'qi'. The ancients used 'qi' to explain the laws of the universe and explore the relationship between humans and nature. In contrast, 'natural philosophy' is a Western philosophy that forms the basis of modern 'natural science' and mainly deals with philosophical questions about the relationship between humans and nature. Unlike the logic system in the East, it objectively analyzes the laws of all things from a scientific perspective.
The magnetic field itself is a vector field with direction and strength (which can be understood as a flowing state of 'qi' in Eastern philosophy). Therefore, this series combines humans and nature, using one of the four fundamental forces in physics, the 'electromagnetic force', as a brush to create visual elements that record and preserve the flow of 'vector fields' that cannot be observed by the naked eye. Through the pursuit of the Eastern aesthetics of 'qi', it shows humanity's philosophical exploration of nature.
This is a platform to present my unique perspective on art to the public, covering the results of my life, thoughts, spiritual activities, and taste expressed through art. Every work is the result of the same mental and emotional dedication."
The surface meaning of the 'Equinox' series is as stated above. However, the series also contains the author's personal expression, written in an adapted code and leaving hints of encrypted keys in the exhibition for viewers to decipher and reconstruct the visual meaning.
