About Melody Chan
Art is the emotional expression of personality and spirit.

Interdisciplinary Artist / Former Maths Teacher (Secondary) / Arts Administrator
Lives and works in Hong Kong and Macao.
Melody Chan(b. Hong Kong, Macao and Hong Kong)roots her practice in the intersection of rational thinking and spiritual inquiry. Holding an MA in Contemporary Art Practice from the Royal College of Art, she approaches art-making as a systematic and contemplative process, drawing inspiration from empirical rigor while embracing the ambiguity of spiritual inquiry.
Melody seeks to uncover the deep relational structures, logical patterns, and aesthetic qualities inherent in the interconnections between different entities. By carefully considering this interconnectedness, she highlights the potential of these elements to transcend boundaries, transforming them into tools for interpretation and revelation. Her work is reflective of her belief in the harmony between what we could call objective rationality and the general humanistic spirit. This process, which blends scientific inquiry with artistic exploration, allows her to express her spiritual quest and philosophy of life, ultimately inviting us to probe deeper into what we see, hear, and understand.
She works across a variety of mediums, including installations, paintings, printmaking, digital art, and multimedia videos. However, her primary focus lies not in the physical manifestation of the artwork itself, but in the ideas and concepts that drive its creation. Each piece is a meticulous conceptual exploration, where logic and aesthetics converge.
Melody was recognised for selections to the Lumen Prize, the Aesthetica Art Prize, the 99 Future Blue Chip Artists, and the Luxembourg Art Prize. Past exhibitions and projects include 'Tate Modern Late' at the London Tate Modern, the AR research project and exhibition 'The Arrival of a Train' organised by Snap Inc. and the Royal College of Art, among others.
