Today was the last day of my first week of TEFL 2021 and what a week it has been. I walked into this course with an open mindset, in the hopes that I would learn some new skills as well as meet new people and I can honestly say that I have achieved these goals.
The first few days were interesting as I had no idea what to expect, but the lecturers managed to make all the lessons fun and exciting. We also had the opportunity to practice teaching a real class just to get a taste of what Teaching English to non-English speakers would be like. That first lesson helped to give me an idea of what I was getting myself into.
This first week was also a bit difficult as I had to get used to being in the academic environment as the last time I was in a class was 3 years ago so it definitely took some time for my body to get accustomed to the new routine.
The workload wasn’t too hectic but at times it felt as though there were too many lessons, teaching practices and assignments crammed into a short period of time so there were many sleepless nights and surviving the day on a can of Red Bull.
Overall, I was impressed with how I managed to take on this new challenge and was able to constantly compete with myself in order to improve my marks and produce the quality of work that I knew I was capable of.
I hope the next three weeks are a bit less stressful and that my brain is able to handle the information overload.
