Since Fall 2013, I have taught a first-year experience college success course. The FS-100 course is designed to help students transition into the college environment and access the available resources to help in their success. My own first generation college experience is something I always relate to my students, and I work hard to establish rapport with each and every one so they trust to reach out if they are struggling in their first semester. In the process, teaching helps me to maintain a fresh perspective in my role as an instructional designer. Additionally, the knowledge I've gained regarding student affairs and college resources also helps me to help faculty.
In Fall 2018 I taught an online FS-102 course, which is a 1-credit version of the 3-credit foundational studies course for students who are required to take at least one fundamental course. In Fall 2019 I began teaching FS-103 online, which is the 3-credit foundational studies course delivered in the online modality.
This is an example of one of my content videos in the FS-102 course, covering the topic of how to be an active learner in college.
My most popular YouTube video is this 3-minute video on goal-setting, which has received more than 6500 views.
