Hrvoja Kekeza, voditelja projekta, naslovljen „…pugnaque cruentissima atque asperrima…“ The Battle of the Ford of the Zrinski on the Una River in 1483. Context, Topography, Course, and Consequences of the Battle.
Sažetak rada: Following the Ottoman conquest of Bosnia in 1463 and the subsequent counteraction of the Hungarian-Croatian King Matthias Corvinus in late autumn of the same year, which resulted in the creation of a defensive zone evolving into the well-defined Banate of Jajce, there was a temporary lull in Ottoman incursions through the Sana River valley and further west along the Una River. Nevertheless, at the outset of the 1480s, the Ottoman encroachments into this region intensified. This led the Counts of Zrin to take measures to confront the Ottoman forces precisely at the Una River fords near its confluence with the Sana River. Numerous battles in that era are documented on these vital crossings, with the most renowned being the clash on October 29 and 30, 1483, where Ban Matthias Vingárti Geréb triumphed over a substantial Ottoman army, capturing a significant amount of plunder and releasing a great number of prisoners. This paper endeavours to address a range of inquiries through extensive contextualization and a meticulous examination of available written sources and terrain analysis. It seeks to elucidate why the Ottomans commenced using the Sana River valley and the Una River crossings during their incursions further west in the early 1480s. It also explores the geostrategic significance of the fords on the Una River near today’s Dvor during that era. Furthermore, it delves into the course of events and the repercussions of the 1483 Battle of the Ford of the Zrinski.
