Definition of Body Image
Body image refers to how a person sees their own body and how they feel about its appearance.
It includes:
Perception: How we see ourselves (which might not be accurate).
Attitudes: How we feel about our bodies (positive, negative, or neutral).
Behaviors: Actions based on these thoughts and feelings (e.g., dieting, avoiding social activities).
Media:
Social media, movies, TV shows, and advertisements often promote a narrow definition of beauty or fitness.
Filters, photo editing, and curated content create unrealistic body standards.
Influencers often showcase "ideal" lifestyles or physiques, which may not be realistic or attainable.
Societal Pressures:
Cultural beauty norms differ, but many promote specific ideals, such as being slim, muscular, or youthful.
Peer comments and societal expectations can pressure individuals to look a certain way.
Family and Friends:
Positive or negative comments about appearance can shape how someone views their body.
Comparisons within friend groups or families can reinforce insecurities.
