TEC Kollam is a residential institute that occupies a 25-acre campus. The main entrance of TEC Kollam is on Travancore College Road, flanked by the residential districts of Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.

The campus is located 27 km from the Kollam Central Railway Station, 56 km from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, and is well connected by city buses. Roadvila is the nearest stand on the Ayoor-Oyoor line.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is the largest of its kind in the state and one of the largest in Kollam. As old as the Institute itself, the department has grown from strength to strength, evolving alongside major technological advances in India and the world and greatly impacting the Institute and society at large.
