Magickal oils have been in use for thousands of years, often to anoint or as perfume, but they are so much more than that. Today magickal oils can be used for spellwork in various different ways but can also be worn as perfume depending on the recipe.
To make magickal oil, you need to decide what the oil is for. Then to select the ingredients, including the base oil you will need to research the correspondences needed to achieve the working you plan to do. Llewelleyn’s Complete Book of Correspondences, by Sandra Kynes, gives a fairly comprehensive set of correspondences dived up into Issues, Intention and Powers, Kingdoms for Plant, Mineral, Animal, Deities, Other Beings, Astrological and Time Reckoning.
After the selection of ingredients, workout what the proportions are by referring back to the purpose of the oil. For example, to make an oil for anointing as part of a spell to give you a boost to overcome obstacles, the ingredients would be:
Make sure that the container for this is a glass jar as plastic will taint the oil. Oils grow more powerful as they sit, so making an oil in advance is good planning. Once you’ve put the ingredients together leave oil outside for 25, yes, 25 hours. It’s best if this is during either the dark moon or a full moon. For the oil above the dark moon is best. This oil can then be used to anoint a candle.
Note, not all oils are appropriate to use on the skin. Additionally, after handling any magickal oil wash hands thoroughly before handling food or drink.
