1949 Opening Weekend
1949 Opening Weekend
"High man on the Fish Pole.........Ralph Schwarze........." means that Ralph was the leader in the summer long fishing contest. The following year was the first year of the Opening Weekend only fishing contest. The flags were made for members of the Mystic Order of Trout Fisherman of Meadowbrook on the Pine. In the early days when you arrived at Meadowbrook you immediately raised your flag to announce your presence to later arrivals. The flags were made from "bomber" cloth that MomMae had gotten from the Willow Run bomber plant where she worked during World War II. This material was used for the wings of the B-24 "Liberators" that were produced there. Herm and Norm's flags currently hang in the summer house dining room.
