Welcome to the Dynamics Animation Library for ME21205 â Dynamics, offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur.
This website complements classroom teaching through a collection of original animations illustrating key concepts in engineering dynamics. Each animation is accompanied by concise explanatory notes and supporting material to help bridge the gap between mathematical formulation and physical interpretation.
This website is intended as a companion animation library for the Dynamics course and does not aim to provide animations for every topic in the syllabus. Instead, it focuses on concepts that particularly benefit from dynamic visualisation and will continue to expand over time.
The animations have been developed using Wolfram Mathematica and are designed to strengthen conceptual understanding alongside classroom lectures.
Module 1: Particle Kinematics
Module 2: Particle Kinetics
Module 3: Kinetics of a System of Particles
Module 4: Plane Kinetics of Rigid Bodies
Module 5: Introduction to Spatial Dynamics of Rigid Bodies
Meriam, Kraige & Bolton
Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics (8th or 9th Edition)
Beer et al. â Vector Mechanics for Engineers
R. C. Hibbeler â Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics
Each animation page typically includes:
đ A brief introduction to the concept
đĨ An original animation
đ Governing equations
đ Key observations
đ Features to watch for in the animation
âī¸ Recommended practice problems (home page of each module)
The animations are organised in the same sequence as the course modules, making it easy to revisit concepts as they are covered in class.
