From 2013 through 2020, I taught a first-year foundational studies course to college students in online, face-to-face, and hybrid modalities. The course is designed to help new students transition into the college environment and access the available resources to help in their success. My own first generation college experience is something I always relate to my students, and I work hard to establish rapport with each and every one so they trust to reach out if they are struggling in their first semester. In the process, teaching helps me to maintain a fresh perspective in my role as an instructional designer and get useful student feedback on different academic technologies.
I stopped teaching to focus on earning my doctoral degree, which I have completed in 2024
I created this video for a first-year college success course that I taught for 7 years. The students were required to set both short- and long-term goals as an assignment, and this was an introduction to the goal-setting process used by the textbook.

I required my students to develop an ePortfolio in my course and encouraged them to continue updating it throughout their academic career. I created this video to introduce the concept and explain the benefits. This video was also published in a custom communications textbook adopted by the college's communications department.
