McVay Interns and Associates: 2016-2017

Hi! My name is Emily Anderson and I am a Sophomore at Hamline this year studying Global Studies. I am excited to be an Associate at McVay focusing on Girl Scouts. I enjoy playing cards with my family, playing sports, and going to animal shelters to see some dogs and cats. I'm looking forward to a great year!

What’s good, it’s Adebowale Bankole, but everyone calls me Debo. I am a third-year intern at McVay, usually at Liberty and Mounds Park. I am a Junior at Hamline and I’m majoring in Marketing and Management. I am a person who likes to sing and do a lot of cooking! I am grateful to be part of this program McVay Youth Voice and I am excited for the growth of the youth in it as well. I am excited to work with the staff and the kids, 

My name is Andrew Cin-Walker and I am currently a sophomore at Hamline University. I plan on double majoring in Global Studies and Education (K-6 License) with a minor in Mandarin Chinese. I spend my time tutoring at Hamline Elementary through the collaboration program and volunteering as a Reading Partner. I enjoy reading and traveling and hope one day to be an elementary school teacher! I’m so excited to start my first year at McVay and be apart of such an influential program.

Hey, my name is Austin Duffy, and I am from Plymouth, MN. I am a Junior majoring in Business Management. I also play football here at Hamline. I like to play basketball, hockey, football, and baseball. I really enjoy being active and being outdoors. This will be my first year at McVay and I am really excited to be a part of this program.

Hi! My name is Raie and I am currently a first year student majoring in Public Health and minoring in Women's Studies. I am also a first year intern with McVay this year and I am thrilled to build many new relationships with kids from all over the community! I have loved every minute of being a McVay Intern and I am even more excited to see what the rest of the year brings!

My name is Megan Gillespie and I am a Junior this year at Hamline University. This will be my second year with the McVay program and I love it! I enjoy to bake, be outside, and travel. My favorite food is peanut butter. One thing I find fascinating about McVay is seeing how much the kids look up to us and how big of an influence we have on them.

Hi my name is Elise Hanson and I am a junior at Hamline this year. I'm majoring in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Food. In my free time I like to cook spend time outdoors and hang out with friends and family. This will be my second year working with McVay Youth VOICE. This year I'm looking forward to facilitating activities focused on the environment! I can't wait to continue working with McVay youth.

My name is Hafsa Hassan and I'm a first year at Hamline. My intended majors are Public Health and Social Justice. This is my first year at McVay and I'm so grateful for working with amazing kids and staff. In my free time I play soccer and explore new restaurants. I am a soccer fanatic and VERY grateful that I had the opportunity to be at most of live games during the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. I'm ready to see what other cool experiences McVay has in store for me

Hi! My name is Shai Hillman. I am currently a Junior studying psychology. This is my first year working with McVay. I enjoy working with kids and am potentially interested in education. Outside of school, I play football and enjoy listening to music. I am looking forward to spending time with the youth among our local community!

My name is Hannah and it is my first year as a McVay intern. I am a sophomore at Hamline University and am majoring in Global Studies and Environmental Studies. In the summer I love working in gardens and spending my time outdoors, even in the winter! I like to read, paint, watch movies, and hopefully one day I’ll make my way to all the national parks. I have a passion for helping people, mentoring youth, and conserving the environment; I am hoping that this will guide my future career goals. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with McVay and I can’t wait to see how this year will develop.

My name is Rico. I am from Hong Kong. I am a Junior majoring in Psychology at Hamline. This coming year will be my second year to work for McVay I enjoy playing and watching soccer. The reason I chose to study in the US is because of the diversity here. I am really interested in cultural differences, so I am looking forward to working with all the kids!

My name is Nathan Huss and I am a Senior majoring in Accounting with minors in Education and Business Analytics. I am on both the football and track teams at Hamline. I love to spend time outside on the lake and also I enjoy just hanging out listening to music, watching movies, playing board games, etc. I am very excited to see what my second year at McVay will bring.

My name is Mikela Janisch. I am a sophomore at Hamline, and this is my first year with McVay. Some of the activities I enjoy are painting, crafting, being outside, sewing, and cooking/baking. and watching the Packers win football games. I'm also involved with Habitat for Humanity, Delta Tau Sorority, and Catalyst Alternative Spring Breaks.

My name is Sam Karnes, and I'm a junior here at Hamline. I'm studying chemistry and hope to apply it in education. I enjoy working with youth in our community; I am an associate with McVay, and am in my second year affiliated with this program. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, watching Netflix, and eating chipotle.

My name is Erin, and I'm currently a junior at Hamline. I am double majoring in Spanish and History, and will be getting certified to teach English as a foreign language. In my free time, I like to read, run, visit state parks around Minnesota, and explore the Twin Cities with my friends. I'm very excited to return to McVay this year and to see all of the youth again!

My name is Ahmed Osman. I am a first-year intern at McVay. I am a freshman at Hamline University. I enjoy playing Xbox and Soccer. I am undecided on a major. I like to shoot/edit videos for fun.

My name is Wade Piper and I am from Wadena, MN. I am a sophomore studying Political Science and Religion. In my free time I like to camp, hike, and watch movies. On campus I am involved with the A capella Choir. I am an associate at McVay.

Hola Hola es Carola! I am a junior at Hamline, double majoring in Political Science and Global Studies with a double minor in Middle Eastern Studies and Spanish. I fluently speak Spanish and English. This is my second year at McVay as an intern and I also work at the Hamline Church! This summer I was student mentor at Hamline University for the institute of academic success where I was able to further develop my leadership skills. This year I will going to be studying abroad in my homeland Cuba this upcoming J-Term. I have been an apart of multiple organizations such as the Hispanic and Latino Organization. I am very passionate about intercultural communication and being an active citizen of the world. I love to travel, chatting up a storm with people, and ice, but not when I fall on it.

Hi! My name is Abby Sprunger, and I'm a sophomore at Hamline majoring in Social Studies and Secondary Education. I love exploring new places, anything to do with the outdoors, and listening to music. I'm super pumped for this year at McVay, and can't wait to get started

Hey everyone! I am a third year college student, I spent two years at the University of Minnesota Duluth and just transferred to Hamline this fall. I am a business-marketing major with plans on getting my masters of business administration after my two years here at Hamline. In my free time I like to read, play lacrosse, go hiking and study hip-hop music. I am extremely excited to be working with the youth this year as I have always loved kids and being around them. Here's to a great year!

Hello! My name is Pa Jai Thao (PJ). I am currently a first year at Hamline and an intern for McVay. I will be double majoring in Chemistry and Public Health. I love being active especially being outdoor and playing sports. I do enjoy my quiet time just reading a fantasy novel or watching TV shows. I also have a lot of niece and nephews and enjoy spending my weekends babysitting them. I am super excited for this opportunity to work for McVay! 

Hello, my name is Quentin! I am a senior double majoring in Political Science and History with minors in Religion and Conflict Studies. This is my first year working with McVay! I have a passion in youth mentorship and had many years of experience and work with youth in after school and summer programs. I enjoy the outdoors, art, movies, history, biking, swimming, chess, and puzzles! Working with children and adolescents has had a tremendous impact on me and are always a joy in my day.
