A STAGE ACTOR'S SURVIVAL GUIDE
Costumes
It’s so much fun putting on a costume and playing a character! It’s one of the things of the theatre that is enjoyable! However, we need to keep our costumes looking and nice and clean. Actors must wear undergarments when wearing costumes. Under clothing will collect the sweat from an upbeat dance number and are modest when doing quick changes off stage.
General underclothing options:
One-piece leotard or short unitard
Tank top and spandex shorts
Items are easy to find at the local supermarket, Discount Dance, and/or Amazon
There may be specific shoes your character may wear. It depends on the show. The costumer will tell you what shoes you need to wear. A good rule of thumb is getting jazz shoes or character shoes. These are good for rehearsals and a basis if you’re not given specified shoes from the costumer.
