Please read audition packets fully and completely.
ALWAYS read or watch the show you will be auditioning for BEFORE you audition.
Auditions to join the musical theatre production class will be held on May 1 from 2-4 for MC students and from 4-4:30 for South Cache/middle school students.
These auditions are not casting auditions - students will not be offered a role in the musical after this audition. The purpose of these auditions is to secure a place in the class itself.
Students should prepare 30-45 seconds of a musical theatre piece of their choice. This audition piece should highlight the student's acting/characterization and singing abilities. Students should bring a karaoke recording with them on a device, or can email their track ahead of time to nicole.martineau@ccsdut.org. A speaker with bluetooth and aux cord capabilities will be provided. No live accompanists please.
At Mountain Crest Theatre, casting is approached with great care and fairness by both student and staff directors. The goal is always to create a cast that best supports the vision of the show. Every audition is watched by Mrs. Martineau, who helps guide the casting process to ensure it's thoughtful and consistent.
Casting decisions are not based on grade level or past participation alone. Instead, roles are assigned based on how well each student fits a part as demonstrated in auditions. This approach helps foster a strong ensemble made up of students from all grade levels, working and learning together.
We understand that auditioning can feel competitive and intimidating. That’s why we offer audition workshops for every production, and Mrs. Martineau is available to coach students in speaking, presenting, and performance skills to help them grow and improve.
Our Commitment to Diversity
Mountain Crest Theatre celebrates diversity in all its forms. We welcome and encourage all students to participate—whether onstage or behind the scenes. We carefully select a wide range of shows each year to tell meaningful stories that reflect the richness of the world we live in and to create opportunities for everyone.
About Casting
Casting is complex. Directors consider many factors, including individual audition performance and how actors interact and connect onstage. Not being cast can be disappointing, but it’s a valuable learning experience. Auditioning builds confidence and skill—and the more a student auditions, the stronger they become. We encourage students to seek feedback, stay involved, and keep working. In theatre—and in life—we all face both successes and setbacks. At Mountain Crest, we aim to help students grow from both.
