Regional College and Career Guide 2021-22
This document provides helpful information regarding regional job growth, apprenticeships, SC scholarships, and resources for college. This document is updated annually.
Individual Graduation Plan
All students in 8th-12th grade and their parents or legal guardians are required by the Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) to meet with their School Counselor to develop and annually update an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP). IGPs allow students to identify their post-graduation goals and support them with academic course selection. During the 30 minute IGP conference, students and parents identify post-graduation goals based on the educational requirements of their chosen career path.
**A Calendly link will be sent out in February 2024 for 8th grade families to sign up for IGP meetings in March 2024.**
PSAT/NMSQT
What: The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) measures what students learn in school, determines if students are on track for college success, and opens doors for opportunities to prepare and pay for college.
Why: The PSAT/NMSQT assessment results are used by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in grade 11 to determine scholarship awards and recognition. For students in grade 8, results are used for SC Junior Scholar recognition. Additionally, for all students, these results provide information for AP Potential as well as potential SAT scores.
When: The PSAT will be administered at MCS on Thursday, October 19th, 2023.
Who: The PSAT/NMSQT is offered to all of our MCS 8th grade students, however it is not a mandatory exam. Parental permission forms need to be signed in order for your child to take the PSAT/NMSQT.
Cost: The test fee for the PSAT is $18. This fee may be paid by cash, check (made out to MCS), or through RevTrak. Fees must be received by the school by Friday, September 8th, 2023.
For more information regarding the PSAT/NMSQT, please visit the College Board website.
