A Better Economy.

As explained in our aims, this Alliance is driven by a desire to build a better economy in the city of Manchester. We believe that social economy organisations play a fundamental role in changing our economy for the better.

But what do we mean by a 'building a better economy', and how can social economy organisations help us achieve this?

It is clear that there are problems with how our economy works. For example, high levels of poverty, inequality and insecure low-paid work are just some of the issues that we face in our city.

Changing how our economy works for the better is clearly not a simple task. But even though it's not simple, there are aspects of our economy that can be changed.

Evidence tells us that a thriving social economy changes how our economy works for the better. This is because social economy organisations help to create secure and fairly-paid jobs, they may help people enter employment, they help local economies to thrive and they can give people more control over how the economy works. Below we have shared some articles and resources which explain how this all works.
