Chassis #003 was built in 1994 , and was registered under plate "K4 MCL" under Ron Dennis as a personal and promotional vehicle. It made its first public appearance in June 1995 at the Goodwood Festival of speed. In 1996, McLaren, through Dennis, sold the vehicle to a customer in Japan, and according to this article, lived in Japan for a few years before being shipped to America. This Japanese sale was the famous story of when a Japanese man "traded" his fiancée for this F1. His mother did not like his fiancée, so she offered to buy him a McLaren F1 in exchange for breaking the engagement. He agreed, and "traded" his partner for a car. At this point, it was returned to the factory for a full refresh, incluing a repaint (original colour kept), an interior refresh, and a mechanical overhaul. It was in 2008 when it was shipped to California and was sold by Symbolic Motors to its third owner. As far as we know, this third owner is the current owner under plate "K01 7ZU" in Florida. It was also at one point during it's life in America, shipped back to England, and swapped interior colors to grey and seats to blue. #003 was the second production car, and the first built in 1994.
The F1 appeared at the 1995 Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 24-25 under the owner, Ron Dennis with plate "K4 MCL" shown. 003 was driven up the hill and was also on show as part of the victory corral. Below are some pictures of #003 at Goodwood
A youtube video posted by Snowbawl on March 9, 2013 shows #003 in a forested area around Ameila Island.
The F1 #003 was showcased at the McLaren's owner's 25th anniversary cruise in 2017 from May 29- June 2 in France, meaning the McLaren got a taste of Europe once again.
