In October 2016, I joined Space Hardware Club L1 Month project, where new club members (or older club members looking to expand their skills) were walked through the fundamentals of the rocketry program, all while preparing their individual Level 1 certification rockets. The project begins in a similar way to the One Month project with multiple lectures over the necessary topics: Intro to Rocketry, Simulation Tools, CAD, etc. We were then taught how to wet layup cylinders and sheets that would become our airframe. Once cured, they were cut to the proper shapes and sizes. I then assembled the rocket, using epoxy resin thickened with silica powder for fillets. The body was filled, primed, and painted. Final adjustments were made to the simulation to make sure the simulation vehicle matched the as-built vehicle, then it was launched on December 11th! This story continues with the first Level 2 attempt.
