Martin's 1,000 mile Challenge

The crazy plan

For the past few years, I've used running to keep fit and healthy and have ran the occasional long-distance race. Running 1,000 miles in a year is something I've wanted to do for a while but have never come close. Raising money for Young Lives vs Cancer given the help they've offered us since Indy's diagnosis seems like a great motivation to do just that.

How do I even do this?

The most I've ever ran in a year is a little over 500 miles, so this is going to be a huge challenge for me. 1k miles is an average of 3 miles (5km) per day, 20 miles per week, or just over 80 miles per month and I'll spend almost 200 hours in my trainers.

Doing a 5k every day won't be much fun so I plan on mixing it up by doing things like 10k runs, half marathons, and possibly some variations like 4x4x48 (a 4-mile run every four hours for 48 hours).

How do I donate?

I've set up a JustGiving page here: www.justgiving.org/indymcbreen where you can donate to our cause. I've set an aspirational target of £5,000 for the year - £5 for every mile I complete!

All money raised by us will be in Indy's name and will be shown directly on Young Lives' website here: https://funds.younglivesvscancer.org.uk/indysfund
