Google's NotebookLM is an AI application that can create podcasts (also notes, outlines, thought webs, etc.) by simply supplying it with source material. To give you an example of what this looks and sounds like check out the 13-minute podcast (below on left) in Spanish that it created from analyzing the transcripts from all of the commercials in Mayomanía. It will accept Google docs/slides, YouTube videos, websites, and copy and pasted text as source materials. It's worth checking out to see just what it can do and think about other applications of it for your classes. It is basically doing what students are expected to do on the AP exam by reviewing material from various sources and providing a single, cohesive response to them. The input language of the source documents can be varied and the output language, which used to be limited to English, can now be changed to all sorts of different languages. In the English language one there is even a fun Beta feature that allows you to "call in" to the podcast to participate in the conversation in real time. You can also customize the response so that the AI follows more specific guidelines or prompts. If you want a tutorial on how to create your own click the video below on right.
Okay, so let me explain...
My co-worker Molly and I had a little too much fun testing the capabilities of some of the latest Artificial Intelligence tools out there. We used Dall-E from OpenAI (https://labs.openai.com/) to request mayonnaise-themed art in the style of the following artists: Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Jesús Rafael Soto, Matilde Pérez, Francisco Goya, Joaquín Sorolla, Fernando Botero, Diego Velásquez, José Clemente Orozco, and even in the style of some ancient Mayan codices.
It was funny and a little scary all at the same time. Here is just a sampling of the magic. See if you can identify the artists listed above. If you need help check out the Google Doc below to get some more information. (These were created in 2023. ChatGPT and Gemini can both do even more impressive things now.)
- Reference to suicide at the 1:42 mark.)

I'd be remiss if I didn't include some recipes that prominently feature mayonnaise in here. I tried to pick some that are relatively easy to prepare and low cost. My personal recommendation is the classic completo italiano from Chile (FYI: vegan mayonnaise and hot dogs are a thing).

We are well aware of how jealous all of the teachers and students of languages other than Spanish are of Mayomanía. Here is a little something to inspire them to create their own version and an opportunity for some great cultural comparisons for all.
