SJEC Mission
Cultivate empathy in action as a core value.
Expand the diversity of parent reps across Maya Lin School; include LGBTQ+, SpEd, bilingual, low income, all faiths, races, and genders.
Share culture and celebrate differences.
Talk about race, culture, and ethnicity in a way that de-centers the idea of a default/dominant culture and that takes us towards a multiplicity of experiences.

Diverse Books Project
Last school year, students from Ms. Day's class led a diversity audit of our classroom libraries and challenged Maya Lin to offer more diverse representation. The PTA is partnering with the school to support and fund the efforts to increase diversity in our school libraries.

Affinity Groups & Coffees
AFFINITY GROUPS & COFFEES
With an aspiration to foster a culture of authentic belonging and connection, in 2021 Maya Lin School started Affinity Coffees. These coffees are an opportunity for caregivers with shared social identities to meet, support and build community together.
