Artist Statement

Influenced by games such as "Blossom" by Laura Meng, as well as bell hook's feminist theory, I set out to create a universe based around a fourteen year old girl who is the victim of deepfake posts online, using what I have learned in my creative writing and media classes to create a project I would be proud of.

Writing about issues women face in society (and in this case, with AI) is deeply important to me, because I feel it is absolutely necessary for us to remind ourselves that women are still fighting for the end of violence, whether it be physical, sexual or psychological, against them on the basis of their gender.

It took me quite some time to reflect on why the topic of AI made me so nervous on occasion. After some thinking and some reading, I figured out that it was because of all the sexist violence it could perpetrate against women. I realized that no woman is protected from going through Maude's story. It could happen to any of us, at any time, for any reason. That is what is most terrifying about it all.
