この度、日本大学芸術学部創設百年を記念し、「松原寛と日藝百年」展が開催されることとなりました。併せて、松原寛の主著『藝術の門』が復刻されます。
この企画は日藝創設百周年を迎えるにあたり、日藝の創設者・松原寛の「創造精神」を現代によみがえらせようとするものです。
松原寛は「生」を単純に讃美することも、表層的な「美」を追い求めることもしませんでした。彼は「生」の根底に「美」を見出そうとしたのです。
芸術と生命(創ることと生きること)は、松原にとってひとつのものだったのだ、と思います。松原は『藝術の門』で、「藝術の天地」においてこそ私たちは「個性が個性として、天馬空を行くが如く、自分の生命を主張し得る」と言っています。何と心強い言葉でしょうか。
松原の筆は様々な芸術分野、ありとあらゆる領域に及びます。「8つのアート、1つのハート」「自主創造」の精神を掲げ、実践してきた日藝ですが、その原型は松原のなかにあったのです。
震災やコロナ禍といった度重なる災禍に見舞われつつ、なお「芸術」を求め、私たちは歩みつづけています。その手がかりを、他ならぬ松原寛こそが示しているのではないでしょうか。
展示を見たうえで復刻版の『藝術の門』を手に取ると、「古典」ではなくいままさに燃え上がる生命の炎として、松原の精神が迫ってくるのを感じずにいられません。苦難の時代に生れながら、「芸術」の力をひたむきに信じて本学部を創設し、私たちに手渡してくれた松原寛──そのほとばしる魂のしぶきに、いまこそふれようではありませんか。

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of Nihon University College of Art, the exhibition "Kan Matsubara and the 100 Years of Japanese Art" will be held. At the same time, Kan Matsubara's main book "The Gate of Art" will be reprinted.
This project is an attempt to revive the "creative spirit" of Kan Matsubara, the founder of the Japan National University of Fine Arts and Music, on the occasion of its centennial.
Kan Matsubara did not simply glorify "life" or pursue superficial "beauty". He tried to find beauty at the root of life.
I believe that art and life (creation and living) were one and the same thing for Matsubara. In "The Gate of Art," he says that only in "the heaven and earth of art" can we "assert our own lives as individuals, as if we were flying through the sky. What reassuring words!
Matsubara's brush strokes cover a wide range of artistic fields, all kinds of areas. He has been practicing the spirit of "eight arts, one heart" and "independent creation", and the prototype for this spirit was in him.
Despite the repeated disasters such as the earthquake and the Corona disaster, we continue to search for "art. I believe that Hiroshi Matsubara, of all people, provides the clue to this.
After viewing the exhibition and picking up a reprint of "The Gate of Art," you cannot help but feel the spirit of Matsubara approaching you, not as a "classic," but as a flame of life that is burning right now. Although he was born in a time of hardship, Kan Matsubara founded the Faculty of Arts with a sincere belief in the power of "art" and handed it to us.

「松原寛と日藝百年」展にようこそおいでくださいました！
周知の通り、「日藝」こと日本大学芸術学部は、独特な芸術教育の場を日本に築いています。総合芸術、個性、はみ出す力、ユニーク、自由、実践力、想像力、そして創造力。「日藝」を形容する言葉は多々ありますが、その言葉の原点には、創設者の松原寛先生の存在があります。
たて続けにふりかかる困難の中、社会情勢の不安と精神的な苦悩の中、松原先生は理想を求め、行動し続けました。思索することをやめずに理想の芸術教育を求め、生きてあることの真理を探求し続け、大学という現場で戦い続け、創造し続けたのです。これらの求道は、日芸の門をくぐった者の使命でもあるはずです。混迷きわまる現代に甦る日藝のオリジナルパワー、松原先生の言葉と深き情熱を、この展示でお伝えできればと思います。
また、「日藝百年」を物語る１００枚の写真も展示し、あの頃のなつかしいキャンパスライフをカラーで甦らせました。「日藝百年」の熱い歴史と未来への予感がつまった展示空間をどうぞご堪能ください。

Welcome to the "One Hundred Years of Kan Matsubara and the Nihon University Arts" exhibition!
As is well known, the Nihon University College of Art (Nichigei) has established a unique place for art education in Japan. As we all know, "Nichigei", or Nihon University College of Art, has established a unique place for art education in Japan: comprehensive art, individuality, extravagance, uniqueness, freedom, practicality, imagination, and creativity. There are many words that can be used to describe "Nichigei", but the origin of these words lies in the existence of the founder, Professor Kan Matsubara.
In the midst of continuous hardships, the uncertainty of the social situation, and mental anguish, Mr. Matsubara continued to pursue his ideals and take action. Without stopping to think, he continued to seek the ideal of art education, continued to search for the truth of being alive, and continued to fight and create in the field of universities. These pursuits should be the mission of all those who have passed through the doors of Nichigei. In this exhibition, we hope to convey the original power of the arts, the words of Dr. Matsubara, and his deep passion, which have been revived in today's chaotic world.
We have also displayed 100 photographs that tell the story of "100 Years of Nichigei", bringing back the nostalgic campus life of those days in color. We hope you will enjoy the exhibition space filled with the passionate history of "100 Years of Nichigei" and a sense of anticipation for the future.
