I am a biologist with a general interest in animal behaviour, and a particular interest in animal vocal communication. Animals produce sounds to communicate in a number of important behavioural contexts, like courtship or alarming. My research focuses on studying behavioural, ecological and evolutionary aspects of these communicative interactions. For this I do bioacoustic and behavioural experiments in the field and the laboratory, and like to keep an evolutionary perspective ("tree thinking") in all my research. Although frogs are the organisms I have studied the most, my interests are broad and not taxonomically restricted, and I have worked on insect vibro-acoustic communication, and the evolution of mammal and bird calls.
