This is a supplementary math class which is in addition to the regular math class. The class will use technology along with a variety of manipulatives to help students better visualize the math concepts. IXL is one online program we will be using this year that works on a variety of standards. Students are given grades on the work completed in online programs, other classwork, activities, and projects done in class. IXL can be done at home as well as in the classroom. It can be used with tablets and smart phones. There is an app for it, but it can also be accessed through any internet browser.
IXL is a great way to prepare for the state test and practice lessons they are working on in their regular math class. The more time spent practicing the math learned in my class and their regular class, the better the student will become! Grades for assigned IXL lessons are by accuracy. Their goal for my class is a smart score of 80 on each assigned lesson. If they earn a smart score of 78, they get an 78 out of 80 in Infinite Campus. Any point above 80 is earning 1/10 of a point in extra credit, with a chance at 2 points on every IXL assignment when they get a 100 smart score. For example, if they receive a smart score of 85, they will earn 80.5 out of 80 point.
I encourage students to correspond with me outside of school hours using the PVschools email system if they have questions about the material or assignments.
