Be the team that correctly identifies the exact number the teacher has recorded. Teams refine their guesses based on whether previous guesses were too high or low.
Students are divided into relay teams, each with 3 or 4 runners. Teams are at their starting spots (along a gym wall, at the end of a hallway, at one end of a field) and the teacher at the other end of the course (or center of the gym). Teacher writes down a number on a slip of paper and then announces "I have a number between .... and .... (between 1 and 10 for youngest groups, 1 and 1000 for older groups). Each team sends their first runner to the teacher to guess what the number is. If the number they guess is too high, the teacher says "Your guess is too high". If the number they guess is too low, the teacher says "Your guess is too low". The runner returns to their team and informs the team that their most recent guess was either too high or too low. The team decides on the next guess and then sends the second runner to the teacher. Again the team member tells the teacher their new guess, the teacher again tells the runner that their guess either too high or too low and the runner then returns to the team. Teams continue to refine their guesses and send new runners until one of the teams guesses the number EXACTLY. At which point the teacher announces to the entire class "We have a winner". The winning team gets to relax, the other teams have to do an exercise assigned by the teacher.
