Hi !!!
My name is Naufil Sakran. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from GC University, Lahore during the year 2021. Currently, I am Ph.D. student at Tulane University, working under Dr. Mahir Bilen Can. My research focuses on numerical semigroups, algebraic geometry and algebraic coding theory.
I was always passionate about Mathematics and foresaw myself becoming a Mathematician. During my college career, I had numerous opportunities to switch fields and move to business studies or charted accountancy, but I always chose Mathematics over everything else. I remained committed to my passion, ignoring comments and suggestions of the nature; “this has no future other than a becoming a schoolteacher”. During my undergrad, I got emotionally attached to pure mathematics, especially to algebra and topology. Beyond any compulsion, purely out of curiosity, I used to extensively read books on these topics of interest and give talks in my department as frequently as possible. With time, my affection towards mathematics grew stronger, and I decided to pursue a PhD in the subject.
My aim is to contribute significantly to the development of Mathematics and promote the subject in Pakistan. The advice which I embark upon and share with others is to follow your passion and determine a goal in life as early as possible. As you move forward, this will help you find direction and give meaning to your life.
For interested young Mathematicians, I have provided some materials that I submitted during my application. You can watch my interview with Mathematics Media here and find the slides of my talk here. The purpose is to give an idea what to include in application statements. Feel free to reach me if you have any questions.

I completed my M.Sc. and M.Phil. in Mathematics from Government College University Lahore. During my M.Sc. and M.Phil, I studied variety of core and advance subjects of Pure, Applied and Computational Mathematics. After completing the mandatory course work during M.Phil studies, I chose mathematical modeling and optimal control analysis of epidemiological disease, as research field and wrote a thesis entitle “Optimal control and sensitivity analysis of COVID-19 with non-pharmaceutical optimal control strategies”. I successfully defended my master thesis and published an article with title “Optimal control strategies for a reliable and competitive mathematical analysis of Covid-19 pandemic model” in Mathematical Methods in Applied Sciences (Q1 rank journal).I continued my research work on mathematical modeling and optimal control analysis with integer order and fractional order models of different infectious diseases, i.e., HIV/AIDS, Lumpy Skin, Malaria and Dengue till this date. I have published six more articles.I worked as research assistant with Dr. AzharIqbalKashif Butt and we have completed two projects (GRANT2486 & GRANT2225) at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, King Faisal University Saudi Arabia under the Deanship of Scientific research. The details of my research activities can be found at: https://www.webofscience.com/wos/author/record/IVU-7807-2023.
Now, I am doing PhD in Computer Science at The University of Tulsa (USA) under a fully funded scholarship. I will advise to the students who are looking for some funded positions/scholarship for their further study, should improve their research expertise and published their work in some good journal. I also recommended students to improve their English language proficiency as well. It will be helpful to get funded positions in top universities of the world. I am always available for any help.

Muhammad Imran
