The Calculator Test is a 30 minute test comprised of 70 questions (35 numerical, 21 stated problems, and 14 geometry problems). Calculators and graphing calculators are allowed on the test but they must not make any noise or be plugged into anything.
Recommended Calculators: TI-84, TI-84 Plus CE -You can use other graphing calculators but this is widely used at all competitions.
This is the second test we usually take following the Number Sense Test.
This purpose of the Calculator Test is to assess your speed, accuracy, and cognitive skills in basic math, pre-calculus, trigonometry, algebra and some calculus.
For both UIL and TMSCA Calculator Applications test, each correct question is worth 5 points while 7 points is deducted for every skipped and incorrect answer. 2 additional points are deducted for problems that are labeled SD (Significant Digits).
Remember your answers MUST HAVE 3 significant digits for each problem unless it is an integer (whole number) or Money (must include 2 decimal places-cents).
All answers will be marked wrong if answers are not written in 3 SDs.
Your answer will still be correct if you are one above or one below the last significant digit.
