TMS Policies:
Each student is responsible for learning the concepts taught each day despite absence. Students can do this by reviewing concepts in Canvas, reaching out to their teacher for help, and utilizing the Math Practice Skills provided.
The House System is a school-wide engaging rewards system. Each student is sorted into a house: Altruismo, Amistad, Isibindi, Nukumori, Reveur, or Sollevare. They work with their house peers to earn house points by being exemplary students, winning house competitions, and participating in house activities. Points can be awarded to houses by teachers or administration, and point values increase based on the size of the task done to earn the points. House points are never taken away, only earned. At the end of each term, the winning house gets a House Party to celebrate their victory.
Every Monday is early out for the purpose of consultation time. This is a great time for students and/or parents to come in to the school to consult with their teachers about their performance. I offer tutoring, make up testing, and an opportunity to consult one-on-one with students during this time. It occurs for an hour after class dismissal.
Besides Monday consultation time, I am available to help students after school any day I do not have a meeting. I try to make students aware of which days that week I am available after school every Monday so they are able to plan ahead.
Students are on time to a class if they are in their assigned seat by the time the bell rings. Even if they are in the classroom, if they are not in their designated seat, they are counted tardy. Once a student earns 5 tardies in the same class within one term, they receive a lunch detention. A 6th tardy earns two lunch detentions. A 7th tardy earns three lunch detentions and a parent meeting.
When students exhibit disruptive behavior of any kind, they are sent to the office for the rest of the period. An email is sent home within the day explaining why the student was sent to the office. They are not allowed to return to class until the next day and are responsible for learning any concepts taught in class. Multiple office referrals for the same student may result in In-School Suspension, Suspension, or Expulsion depending on the seriousness of the disruption.
Dress code can be found using this link from the district website and is applicable district-wide. Violations of dress code are considered disruptions to class and will result in an office referral.
Questions on any other school policies can be answered directly by calling TMS at (435)654-0550.
SHIELD
SHIELD is your student's time to catch up on or relearn concepts taught in class. It is basically time for your student to get what they would be getting during after-school tutoring (as a side note, after-school tutoring is also still available). SHIELD occurs for half an hour between 2nd and 3rd period every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. It is considered a class, and your student is expected to be on time, well-behaved, and actively participating in the lesson, activity, and assignments.
Sometimes your student will be called down by a teacher to make up missing assignments, assessments, or to be retaught material that they may have performed poorly on. When this happens, your student's SHIELD assignment will show up on their Canvas. If they are not called down, they will have the opportunity to select and sign up for the SHIELD option of their choice. Therefore, if they do well on assignments and assessments, they have the automatic reward of being able to attend the SHIELD of their choice.
