About the Teacher

Welcome to our 6th grade math class! My name is Alyssa Smith, this is my fourth year teaching, but my third at Timpanogos Middle School, and I am excited to be a part of the community here at TMS.

To share a little about me, my husband, Matthew, and I have been married for four years. He is currently working on his Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions! We both grew up in Dallas, Texas originally, and Heber has become home for us now too. A few things that I enjoy include classic rock music, popcorn, board and card games, playing the piano, reading, and spending time with my husband, siblings, nieces, and nephews.

One of the things that I most enjoy, however, is learning. I love learning so much that I decided to become a teacher. I believe the true mark of really learning something is the ability and desire for one to make discoveries and share their experience with others. Because of my own personal experience with this, one of my goals as a teacher is not only to help students remember what they learn, but to understand on a level of being able to teach those around them. This includes formal teaching of expected standards as well as the less explicit lessons learned through everyday life. My hope is to foster relationships that inspire confidence in my students to teach, share, and, in the process, always continue learning.

The best way I know how to accomplish my goals for students is to always be learning more about them individually and finding how to connect with them in ways they each need. I care about each of my students and highly value their experiences and ideas. I am very excited to get to know all of my students on an individual basis.

This is going to be a great, learning-filled and fun-filled year!
