Homework will be done ONLINE using the WebAssign course software. Additional information on how to register for WebAssign is listed on the Home Page of this syllabus under Course Materials.
Homework will be assigned after each section is completed, but feel free to work ahead. You can access homework assignments as soon as I post them. Suggested due dates are posted in Canvas and on WebAssign and will also be announced in class. At this point in your educational career, you probably already know that you must do the homework in order to master the material. To further motivate you to do your homework, the weekly quizzes and. chapter tests will be derived from the homework.
All homework assignments will be due at 11:59 p.m. the night before a test on the assigned material.
However, in order to help you be successful in the class and keep up on the material, I will assign Suggested Due Dates for each assignment in Canvas. These Suggested Due Dates are designed to keep you on schedule and ensure that you can better understand the current material discussed in class and are prepared for our weekly class quizzes. I strongly recommend that you do your best to complete homework assignments by the Suggested Due Dates!
And yes, you can submit late homework! For more information, please see the Late Homework Policy below.
Please do your best to have patience with technology. There will be hiccups, expect them. We will get through them together.
Assignments and Suggested Due Dates are posted in the Weekly Modules in Canvas. You can access the assignments from Canvas, but I have heard from students that the formatting can get a bit weird at times, so you may want to work on the homework assignments by logging directly into WebAssign instead.
While your written work on your WebAssign assignments will not be collected, I strongly recommend that you keep an organized homework notebook so that you have a neat record of your work that you can use to study before quizzes and tests.
In many cases, you will have multiple attempts on homework questions. Please see the Grading Information and Tips note that appears at the top of each homework assignment for details.
Generally, I will give you 5 attempts to get the correct answer on free-response questions. After 3 incorrect answers, a 15% penalty will be applied for each subsequent attempt.
On multiple-choice or matching questions, the number of attempts will depend on the number of answers available. In other classes where I have used online homework, I have had students end the semester with a homework score of close to 100%. I hope for the same here!
There are many help features built into WebAssign:
Some questions have a Practice Another Version button. This will give you a very similar problem to practice. Some questions have worked out solutions or videos showing how to solve these similar problems.
Homework assignments are due the night before a test on the assigned material so that you can practice and learn the material before demonstrating your skills on the test in class.
However, I understand that you may occasionally fall behind on homework. In the case that you do not complete a homework assignment before the due date, you can request an Automatic 14-Day Extension in WebAssign. There is no late penalty for this extension.
The extension is available for two weeks after the due date for a homework assignment has passed. After that time, you will not be able to complete the assignment for credit.
No late work will be accepted after the start of our Final Exam.
