High impact tutoring is effective at helping increase school outcomes for K-12 students. After a long period of online schooling, some kids in Central Illinois could really use your help and support. The Illinois Tutoring Initiative will assist tutors and their K-12 students through strong training, available resources and materials, and direct connections to district curriculum. Areas for tutoring include K-8 reading, K-8 math, and 9-12 math. Tutors for the High School Online Math portion will be matched in a one-on-one setting or with a small group of high school students (grades 9-12 consisting of 1-3 individuals per small group) based upon content area and age-level. Join the pool of tutors and we will get you matched with a student when available.

Tutors from across the state will work in small groups of 1-3 students to tutor high school (grades 9-12) students in the areas of Algebra and/or Geometry in Illinois. Tutors will be matched with students by proximity, and type of tutoring (1:1 versus small group). Tutoring format will occur in an online-only capacity. Tutors will work consistently with the same student(s) for the period of one semester for 3 hour-long sessions per week. Tutors will have an additional 1.5 hours of planning time per week to prepare for tutoring sessions. Additionally, tutors will be paid for training prior to entering the pool of available tutors. Tutor matches are not guaranteed and all tutors will be placed into a pool for matching with students are requested by districts across the state. Tutoring sessions could be scheduled during weekdays, week nights, or weekend hours as determined by the high school student schedule. The sessions will be scheduled at consistent times week over week for the duration of the semester.

Math is hard enough...deciphering word problems can make it impossible! If converting measurements and multiplying decimals has made the transition into middle grades math hopeless, it is time for you to get a math tutor.

Against this backdrop, the most important thing for you to know about StudyPoint is that we're a national leader in both online and in-home tutoring. We've been doing in-home tutoring since the 1990's, and began offering online tutoring a decade ago. In total we've completed more than 650,000 hours of in-home tutoring and over 500,000 hours of one-to-one, online instruction.

In most locations, if your family is ready to move back to face to face instruction, we have fully vaccinated tutors who are able to meet with your child in the convenience of your home. If you prefer online, we have a great team of instructors who can meet with your child in our custom virtual classroom that was purpose-built for live, online tutoring. We've invested heavily in custom technology to make online instruction more effective, and in a typical year more than half of our programs are online.

If you have an urgent tutoring need, you can reach out to a member of our staff directly at 1-87STUDYPOINT (1-877-883-9764). We are certain we can be a resource for you and your family this school year, and we look forward to speaking with you!

The Concepts and Skills Series is educational software at its finest. It features interactive, self-paced tutorials that allow students to master the concepts of math and build proficiency in problem solving.

"We bought the MathTutor series after reading a review and we are thrilled. Our son's math grade has gone from a C- to an A, and his confidence has soared. We are deeply grateful for your wonderful software."

"The MathTutor series is absolutely amazing. I tell my students it is far and away the best math educational program I have seen. It's great for students who are already good at math and those who are having difficulty."

I would have told him how important math is. I would have encouraged him to work harder, be persistent, and just sit down with tough ideas and eventually he would start to figure them out. I would have shown him that he could learn anything if he set his mind to it. And I would have sat down with him and helped him.

? All of this has given me perspective. It has given me a unique point of view on 1) how hard it can be to learn math and 2) how rewarding it can be to finally understand it! As a 20-something, I started tutoring students in the liberal arts. I taught public speaking, communication, writing, and Spanish. Soon after I started, parents began asking if I knew any good Portland, OR math tutors. I began interviewing math tutors. Eventually, I found a mechanical engineering student at PSU who was a good fit. He had a great ability to explain difficult concepts in simple ways. Soon I became a math tutor as well.

Your request will be forwarded to the graduate students of our department. If one of them wishes to tutor, he/she will contact you.

The graduate students may provide this help as a service; they are not required to tutor by the department.

In-person tutoring is by Drop-in only. See the hours above for the days/times that drop-in math tutoring is offered. All in-person tutoring takes place at the Academic Success Center located in the Albert W. Brown building.

The math tutoring program is designed to assist Brockport students who need extra help with course work related to mathematics. Students enrolled in math, statistics, science, or any other courses involving mathematics are welcome to drop in for math tutoring whenever questions or difficulties arise. Math tutors are available to help students with a number of tasks, including preparing for exams and quizzes, overcoming homework-related difficulties, understanding particular problems or concepts, using math textbooks effectively, elaborating on proofs, clarifying class notes, and providing tips on how to study mathematics more effectively. Additionally, math tutors will encourage students to make use of instructional videos, software, and printed materials as an additional means for improving math skills.

All of our tutors are undergraduate and graduate math majors who are selected based upon recommendations by the Department of Mathematics faculty. Tutors are hired based on academic excellence, math proficiency (i.e., have completed at least Calculus III), and a willingness to help others. Department of Mathematics graduate assistants also work as math tutors. Upon being hired, math tutors participate in a training seminar and, throughout the semester, are closely supervised. Approximately 15 math tutors are available each semester.

For additional resources, the Seattle Public Library and King County Library System offer free homework and tutoring help for students in fourth through 12th grade. Please visit their websites for additional information.

The Developmental Math Program in the Department of Mathematics at Western Michigan University offers a tutor lab for program participants. The tutor lab offers one-on-one and group tutoring. There are computers on-site to give you hands-on help with E-Learning, Desmos and Mobius. The tutors will not do your homework for you. Instead they will ask you how you approached the problem and where you started having difficulty. This way they are following your thought process rather than forcing their method on you.

Math student tutors are available In-Person in Room 3906 and Online. Faculty (denoted by two stars) are only available to meet in-person. If you are interested in meeting a student tutor online, please follow the instructions below:

HELPFUL HINTS: When hiring a private tutor, check the individual's credentials. Questions that should be asked include: 1) What are your credentials? 2) Where are you currently enrolled or teaching? 3) What do you charge? Be sure to verify the individual's enrollment or employment through a phone call. Please be cautious. Do not schedule tutoring sessions at your residence. (Do not even provide your home address.) Arrange for tutoring sessions to take place where others are present, such as in a library or some other well-lighted and well-populated location. Finally, do not permit someone else to do your academic work for you, as that is a violation of the CU-Boulder Student Honor Code.

Make an Appointment with an Individual Tutor! Besides the Drop-in Math Tutoring labs in Swart Hall 017 and the Developmental Math Lab in Swart Hall 301, the Center for Academic Resources (CAR) located in the Student Success Center offers several other types of free tutoring in math courses (Math 104 and above), including one-on-one, small-group, and online visits. They do not provide drop-in tutoring, instead you need to make an appointment with an individual tutor. Stop by their office or visit their website to learn more about peer tutoring through CAR.

Tutoring is a great way to help others and help yourself bydeepening your own understanding of the concepts you are helping others to understand. Tutoring is also great way to get experience with teaching, working with others, and understanding a variety of ways of thinking about math. 2351a5e196
