Welcome to one of my favorite subjects. The word "geometry" comes from two Latin and Greek words interpreted to mean "the measurement of the earth." We study geometry because it is useful in many professions, it is challenging, it is logical, and it gives visual meaning to arithmetic and algebra. Geometry helps you appreciate the power of logic as a tool for understanding the world around you.
