A mass shooting/mass murder is defined, by the Gun Violence Archive, as a gun-involved incident in which four or more people, not including the perpetrator, are killed.
All of the mass shooting incidents and reports can be found through the Gun Violence Archive website. This website has been an excellent and well-updated resource for me while creating the scarves.
When starting this project, my main goal was to put large, hard to visualize numbers into something tangible. It is hard for our brains to comprehend the 500+ mass shootings in 2024, but seeing the weight of those numbers is a sobering and haunting experience.
Every row on the scarves marks human beings like us, and I ask that we take time to be empathetic when speaking about those that have passed.
My current goal is strict gun reform - plain and simple. I have read every single incident report, and have noted every single person who has died or been injured in a mass shooting throughout this past year. I have read of children slaughtered in "family annihilation" cases, those injured while playing in the park, and those killed at school while trying to learn. Because of this, I am firm on my stance that to possess is to partake.
