How MasalaMetrics collects, uses and stores your information.
Last updated 8 September 2026
Everything about your body — age, gender, height, weight, activity level and your calculated calorie target — is stored only on your device. We never receive it and cannot see it.
Your food log is different. So that your history survives a lost phone and follows you to a new one, meals you save are stored in our cloud database under your account.
Stays on your iPhone: body profile, calorie targets, Apple Health data.
Stored in your account: the meals you save and your sign-in identifier.
Never happens: we do not sell your data, and we do not use health information for advertising.
To calculate how many calories and macronutrients you need, MasalaMetrics asks for personal details. These are written to your device's local storage and are not transmitted to us or to anyone else.
Age or date of birth
Gender
Height and weight
Activity level
Your goal, and the daily energy and macronutrient targets calculated from the above
Deleting the app removes this information permanently. Because we never hold a copy, we cannot restore it for you.
Saving a meal writes a record to our cloud database, hosted on Google Firebase. Each record contains:
The food name and portion you confirmed
Nutrition values — energy, protein, carbohydrate, fat and any other figures shown
The date and time you logged it, and which meal of the day it belongs to
An identifier linking the record to your account
We also hold the minimum needed to run an account: your email address or the identifier returned by the sign-in provider you chose, and the dates your account was created and last used. If you sign in with Apple and use Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address Apple generates.
Meal records are readable only by the signed-in account that created them. This is enforced by server-side security rules, not just by the app.
When you scan a meal, the image is sent to a third-party image-recognition service, which returns an estimate of the food and its nutrition. The image is used to produce that result and is not used to train models that identify you.
Camera and photo library access is requested only when you start a scan, and you can withdraw it at any time in iOS Settings. The rest of the app continues to work without it — you can still add meals manually.
With your permission, MasalaMetrics reads active and resting energy and workout data from Apple Health so your calorie balance reflects what you actually burned. If you allow it, the app also writes the meals you log back to Health as dietary energy.
Health data is processed on your device only. It is never uploaded to our servers, never shared with third parties, and never used for advertising or marketing — as required by Apple's rules for HealthKit apps.
You control this in the Health app under Sources, and revoking access takes effect immediately. Health data is not part of any backup we hold, because we hold none.
If you are in the UK, EU or another region with similar law, our legal bases are:
Contract — running your account and storing the food log you asked us to save.
Consent — camera access, Apple Health access and any optional notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time in iOS Settings.
Legitimate interests — keeping the service secure and diagnosing crashes.
Health and body data are a special category under GDPR, which is a large part of why we keep them on your device and out of our systems.
We use a small number of processors, each bound to handle data only on our instructions:
Google Firebase — authentication and the cloud database holding your meal log.
Apple — Sign in with Apple, and App Store delivery.
Our image-recognition provider — used to estimate nutrition from meal photos.
These providers operate servers outside your country, so your meal records may be processed abroad under standard contractual clauses or an equivalent transfer mechanism.
Meal records stay in your account until you delete them or delete your account. Deleting your account removes your meal history and account record from our live systems promptly, and from routine backups within 30 days.
You can delete your account from Settings inside the app. You do not need to email us, and we will not ask you why.
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or restrict how we use it. Most of this is available directly in the app; for anything else, write to 5000prashant@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
Requests only reach the data we actually hold. Your body profile and Health data sit on your device, outside our reach — you delete those yourself by clearing them in the app or removing it.
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit, database access is restricted by per-user security rules, and administrative access is limited to those who need it. No system is perfect, and we do not claim otherwise — but if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
MasalaMetrics is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Calorie tracking can be harmful for young people. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
If we change how we handle your information we will update this page and, for anything material, ask you to review it the next time you open the app. The date at the top of this page always shows the current version.
Questions, complaints or data requests: 5000prashant@gmail.com. If you are in the EU or UK and are unhappy with our response, you can complain to your national data protection authority.
