Jim and Joyce Hinderks presented their program "The Grand Review" at the June 2019 meeting.

"The Grand Review"

May 23-24,1865, Washington DC.  A celebration!  An event to change the country's mood from mourning for the slain President, Abraham Lincoln, to one of celebrating the victory of preserving the Union! All of Washington was decorated with flags and flowers. There were 150,000 soldiers in the parade. The end of the review signaled the end of military duty for the many volunteers, who could now return to their homes as husbands, fathers, sons and brothers to resume civilian life.
