I supervise a number of courses for the Mathematics Tripos at Cambridge. Here is a list of courses I have supervised/am supervising.
IA Vectors and Matrices
IA Probability
IB Groups, Rings and Modules
II Representation Theory
Here's the timetable for revision supervisions. If the suggested times do not work for you, please contact other pairs and see whether they can swap timeslots with you; once all parties have agreed, please email me of the changes, cc'ing everyone involved. Do not change the pairings. If nothing works, please email me and I'll try to figure things out.
Location is always Seminar Room 3, Cripps Court, Magdalene College. I should have sent you directions to Cripps Court.
Instructions for Revision Supervisions:
Complete all questions from the chosen years of past papers.
Start a new question on a fresh page, and leave sufficient margins for me to put down my comments. When you're done, arrange your solutions in increasing order of year, and in increasing order of question/paper number for each year.
Turn in your work to the usual blue folder in the DPMMS C pigeonhole. Deadline for work submission is 17.30pm on the Friday before your supervision. (Magdalene IAs - ignore this bullet point, and submit work to the usual place at the usual time.)
If you would like to discuss questions from other years, please inform me of the years & question numbers via email prior to the supervision. I'm very happy to answer questions, but I need some time to look over them in advance too!
Chosen years/questions are as follows:
IA Vectors & Matrices: 2021, 2023, 2024.
IA Probability: 2023, 2024. Magdalene IAs - do 2021 as well.
IB GRM: 2022, 2023, 2024.
II Representation Theory: 2020 (only Paper 4), 2021, 2022, 2023 (skip 2023 Paper 3).
Here are some supervision resources for my students, who will hopefully find them useful for understanding concepts and revision.
Waffle on changing bases - in this piece of waffle, I discuss the idea of changing bases. I try to motivate why we care about different bases, and propose an intuitive way of remembering the change-of-basis formula.
Restriction, Induction and all that Jazz - a piece of waffle which holds your hand through induction, restriction and Mackey theory.
Notes on two different ways to develop induced representations.
