Journalism is the process of gathering, composing, and distributing news, analysis, and feature articles for both print and electronic media. The development of specialized means for regularly acquiring and distributing information, which have improved "the diversity of news available to us and the speed with which it is disseminated," is a key moment in the history of journalism.
Three thousand years ago, under the reign of the Egyptian pharaohs, it all began. To inform his officers in the provinces of what was happening in the capital, Amenhotep III dispatched hundreds of messengers. Acta Diurnas, which included senate acts, laws, and birth and death notices, were placed in public areas in Rome, 2000 years ago.
Islam has even acknowledged journalism from Nuh AS's time. In a limited sense, Muhammad SAW's companions served as reporters at the time when journalism had already emerged. The Khulafaur Rasyidin carried on the development of journalism after Rasulullah SAW passed away.
During Julius Caesar's rule in Ancient Rome, journalism first took root throughout Europe. As a result of Gutenberg's creation of the printing press, journalism in Europe evolved quickly. Germany saw the emergence of the first periodicals in Europe in 1609. Relations in Starsbourg and Aviso in Wolfenbuttel. Other newspapers soon started to appear.
China has made significant contributions to the growth of journalism worldwide. A bao, or "report," was published by court officials during the Tang dynasty. Up to the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1911, this gazette was published constantly.
1456. Johannes Gutenberg created the first printing press, which enabled the printing of the Bible and other books.
1600. The First Newspaper appeared.
1665. England's Oxford Gazette.
1690. First American Newspaper.
1721. New England Courant.
1791. First Amendment.
1830. Founding of the Penny Press.
1833. The New York Sun.
The 20th century in journalism was marked by a development in professionalism. There were four key aspects:
The increasing organization of working journalists.
Specialized education for journalism.
A growing literature dealing with the history, problems, and techniques of mass communication.
An increasing sense of social responsibility on the part of journalists.
REVIEW
After reading and finding a lot of information about the history of journalism, I personally think that this topic was interesting because I know that journalism is not something that appeared spontaneously, but it went through a long phase and journey. The history of journalism also taught me about innovation throughout the centuries, as I can recognize the evolution of technology that used to support the journey of journalism as well.
It is also something that could be considered as one of the reasons why I should be grateful. In the past, it was hard to gain important information and to know what happened around the world. It was hard to access reliable information and share it with people. But today, I can easily access and share any kind of news, whether it happened around me or all around the world. Obviously, I must be responsible for what I accessed and shared.
