INTERNAL CRISES

Internal marriage crises are formed through a failure in the marriage relationship. The failure is grounded on lack of understanding the nature and dynamics of the marital relationship. The couple experiences various tensions in their relationship which lead to continues deepening of the crisis due to lack of constructive solution. Internal marriage crises which have not been resolved may lead to the occurrence and development of domestic violence.

Domestic violence: Domestic violence is the abusive behaviour of one of the spouses against the other. It develops a cycle of abuse which cannot be stopped without intervention. Domestic violence may take five different forms, namely, physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, economic abuse and spiritual abuse.

Physical Abuse: a violet behaviour which purpose is to affect the physical health of the spouse.

Emotional Abuse: an abusive behaviour which targets the mental health of the spouse through continuous psychological terror.

Sexual Abuse: a form of violence which forces sexual intimidation and/or sexual intercourse on the spouse.

Economic Control/Abuse: this form of domestic violence targets the material stability and financial resources of the partner.

Spiritual Abuse: this form of domestic violence embodies various types of abusive behaviour manipulating spouse’s religious convictions through misusing a religious source of authority.
