As I've gotten more into the Model Railroading hobby, I've written some articles and pages on what I've learned along the way. In case anyone finds them useful, here is a list of some of the "How To" documents I've put together.
Revitalize Your Holiday Layout - A downloadable article on how we got started in the hobby of Holiday Village layouts, how we built our current display table, and how we applied model railroad scenery techniques to build the mountain and platforms in our layout. Includes tips we learned along the way in collecting and modifying all the pieces.
Convert Holiday Trains to DCC/Sound - A page (with downloadable article) on how I converted our "collectible" steam locomotives to Digital Command Control (DCC) with sound. I've tried other techniques that are more difficult, but this is just swapping out the chassis of the locomotive with one equipped with DCC and sound - much easier!
NCE Programming and Test Track - A page describing how I built a DCC programming track to test, program and maintain On30, HO and N scale model trains equipped with DCC (including sound). This test board is set up for the NCE Power Cab DCC controller, and includes a USB interface with a computer running JMRI, to simplify the sometimes tedious configuration programming of DCC locomotives.
Spookytown Shooting Range Repair - A page (with downloadable article) on how I repaired one of our animated Lemax collectible village buildings. These animated buildings often have maintenance problems, and it is difficult to find details on how to fix them when they go wrong. Here I show how I fixed a broken gear to bring this interesting structure back to life.
